...Just Leave Me ALONE!!

More and more as time goes on I find that things that I've been expounding on seem to filter out into the mainstream.  I've decided that I need to start writing them down so I can say, "See!  I told you so!"  This is the first post in that vein. 

I have an idea that I think libertarians, fiscal conservatives, and social conservatives could all rally around.  It’s called the “Just Leave Me Alone” campaign, and I’ve been carping about it to my husband for months now.  I mean, really, what do conservatives and libertarians want?  We want the government to get out of our business, stop trying to tell us how to live our lives, and LEAVE US ALONE!  And not just the government.  All those people who think that they have a right, no, a duty! to tell others what to do with their lives. 

I envision several little scripts, each one focusing on one part of the movement.

For example, libertarians want to be left alone to live their personal lives the way they want to without interference by the government or the Mrs. Grundy busybodies of the world, so:

Each person is a separate shot, with background appropriate to their name.  Title cards can be inserted with more details:         

HIPSTER

Leave me alone.

GAMER

Leave me alone

YOUNG WOMAN

Just leave me alone

GAMER

Don’t tell me what kind of games I can play.

OLD ARTHRITIC PERSON

Don’t tell me I can’t have pain medication, just because you’re afraid some addict may try to game the system. 

YOUNG WOMAN

Don’t tell me what I can and can’t do with my body, or what I can or can’t eat.  It’s my body.

HIPSTER

I’m a sovereign individual.  As long as I’m not hurting anyone, it’s none of your business what I do.

PHOTOGRAPHER

Don’t tell me who I have to do business with!  If I have a moral objection to a project I have the right to refer them to someone who does want their business.  …and I shouldn’t be sued, or fined by the Government!

OLD ARTHRITIC PERSON

Don’t tell me what health care practitioners I can see, just because I’m on Medicare.  If I’m willing to pay I should be able to see any doctor I want to.  I’m not a slave.  Medicare doesn’t own me!

HOUSEWIFE

Don’t tell me what kind of light bulbs I have to buy!  I don’t want to expose my kids to mercury just because you’re trying to “save the environment”.  

 

TITLE CARD:  CFL LIGHT BULBS CONTAIN MERCURY, WHICH IS A TOXIC CHEMICAL THAT IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS FOR FETUSES, INFANTS, AND CHILDREN.

There will be a script for fiscal and social conservatives.  This was just the easiest to write.  Come up with scripts of your own - what do you want the Government to stop doing?  How do you want it to leave you alone?
